My Top 5 Posts of 2019

It seems we're not the only ones trying to simplify our lives. Four of my top five posts are from my Decluttering and Downsizing series. In fact, the top post of all time is the first I wrote in the series. Part 1 of our Foster-Adoption story made it into the top 5 as well!

Decluttering; Laying Aside Every Weight

Knowing that we would be downsizing in the near future, I started decluttering. It wasn't until pictures started coming up in FB memories that I realized just how long I'd been at it! Here I am a year later, finally at the end of what has been a very long but satisfying journey. I thought I'd share a little of the process here.

Living Simply; Going Minimalist?

Having just gone through a major decluttering of our house, I've spent some time watching various videos to get myself organized and motivated. Whether it's the tiny house movement, capsule wardrobes or downsizing, everyone seems to be talking about minimalism. But does decluttering mean we're becoming minimalists?

Clutter of Keepsakes?
In a previous post, I posed the question, "But does decluttering mean we're becoming minimalists?" For the most part, I'm a very practical person and a messy house stresses me out, so minimalism does have an appeal. But I'm also sentimental about some things.

Our House Tour; Moving On
As my husband nears retirement age, we realized we hadn't really planned for this stage of life. Most of our family has grown up and left home, and we've retired from 30 years as foster parents, leaving us and just 2 kids in a very large house. We had started a decluttering and downsizing process about 2 years ago, and in June 2019, we moved into what we hope and expect to be our retirement house.

A Foster Adoption Story
Foster care has been a huge part of our lives and our adoption journey, with 5 of our children coming from the foster care system. Most of their stories were included in my book. When it was published, I thought that chapter had come to an end. Little did I know God had another plan. As this new chapter unfolded I shared bits and pieces of it on my personal  blog...the good, the bad and the ugly! I've taken some of these book excerpts and blog entries and created a series of posts.

  1. How great is it to look back on all we’ve achieved with the Lord throughout a year. He is good! Decluttering is such a great journey to be on, I imagine you feel fantastic for all the work you’ve done. Bless you Deb, I pray this year is just as fruitful, if not more so, for you xx
