Promises From Psalms; Psalm 5:11-12

Our second Promise From Psalms is found in Psalm 5:11-12.

This Psalm is a prayer of David crying out to God for help and direction. In verses 11 and 12, the Psalmist speaks of those who put their trust in God.  Because He defends them they can rejoice and shout for joy; those that love His name can be joyful in him. God will bless the righteous and with favour will compass him with a shield.

Psalm 5:11-12 KJV

"But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: Let them shout for joy,...Let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee"

I need this reminder! I need to spend more time simply rejoicing in the Lord!

Why? "Because thou defendest them:"

In reading through these first Psalms, I can't help but notice how often David calls out to God...for help, for strength, for mercy and protection. I have that same God! I too can call out to him, knowing he hears my every cry. I have every reason to be joyful, knowing that I have a Lord and Saviour who will defend me!

For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

I know I fail God daily, but I can take heart knowing that David too failed Him and yet God was merciful. It's only because I'm clothed in the righteousness of Christ that I have any hope, and it's because of God's mercy that I can rejoice and shout for joy.

May I put my trust in His word and in his name and be joyful, knowing that I too can come before the Lord each morning and cry out to Him and He will hear.
